OMPT-C guide (2026): syllabus, difficulty, universities, pass marks and price

OMPT-C is the smallest module of the OMPT: 30 questions in 120 minutes on 66 topics in four chapters (Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Geometry). Programmes such as Amsterdam University College's Humanities major, Radboud Psychology and several Vilnius University bachelor's ask for it. An attempt costs €240 and the test provider suggests about 40 hours of preparation.

OMPT-C exam format

Four minutes per question is the slowest pace of the four 120-minute modules, so time pressure is rarely the reason an OMPT-C attempt fails. Accuracy is. Every answer is checked by a computer-algebra system and then reviewed by a mathematician, and a wrong final answer earns nothing, so the spare minutes are best spent checking that the answer is simplified, exact and typed with the right variable name. Set one checkpoint: past question 15 at the 60-minute mark.

OMPT-C syllabus: the 4 chapters

• Numbers: fractions, exponents and roots, and arithmetic without your own calculator. This is the foundation the other three chapters lean on.
• Algebra: expanding, factorising and simplifying expressions, including algebraic fractions.
• Linear formulas and equations: reading and rearranging linear formulas and solving linear equations, the type of question in the worked example below.
• Geometry: lengths, areas and angle relationships in plane figures, including right-angled triangles.

There is no functions chapter, no differentiation, no trigonometry and no statistics. If a resource covers those, it is not an OMPT-C resource. The full topic list per chapter is on the OMPT-C syllabus page and on the official syllabus.

Which universities require OMPT-C

Examify's university list currently holds four programmes that name OMPT-C, all shown below. Zuyd University of Applied Sciences also names OMPT-C for four English-taught bachelors in Maastricht and Heerlen but publishes no pass mark, so it is covered in its own Zuyd OMPT guide rather than in this table.

Two of these rows deserve a second look. At Radboud, OMPT-C is one of two accepted modules, and OMPT-C is the smaller one, so there is no reason to sit OMPT-E for Psychology. At Amsterdam University College the Humanities major sets 70%, 15 points above the other three, and ties the result to a 1 July submission date. Check the module and minimum on each university page and the comparison on OMPT passing scores before you book, because programme pages change.

OMPT-C pass marks

The pass mark is set by the programme, not by the test provider, and in the programmes above it runs from 55% to 70%. Radboud University and both Vilnius University entries ask for 55%; Amsterdam University College asks for 70%.

Plan for a mock score 10 to 15 points above your programme's minimum. Mock scores move 5 to 10 points between sittings, and the real exam adds a proctor, an ID check and a room scan. For a 55% minimum that means a 65 to 70% mock; for the AUC 70% it means 80 to 85%. If your programme does not publish a minimum, plan for 75%.

How hard is OMPT-C

OMPT-C is the least demanding module on every published measure. It has the fewest topics (66, against 161 for OMPT-E and 176 for OMPT-A), the fewest questions (30, against 40 and 52), and the lowest suggested preparation time (about 40 hours, against about 120 for OMPT-E and about 80 for OMPT-A). It also gives 4 minutes per question where OMPT-A and OMPT-B give 2.3 and OMPT-E gives 3.0.

The small syllabus cuts both ways. With only four chapters, a weak chapter is a quarter of the exam, and Geometry is usually the one students last saw longest ago. The test provider's own figure applies here as much as to any module: students who worked through its learning materials scored 76% on average on their first attempt, students who did not scored 40%. Example OMPT-C question with worked solution

This question is Examify's own, written in the style of the Linear formulas and equations chapter. It is not a past paper; the test provider does not publish past papers.

Question: Solve 4(x − 2) = 2x + 6.

1. Expand the bracket: 4x − 8 = 2x + 6.
2. Move the x-terms left and the numbers right: 4x − 2x = 6 + 8.
3. Simplify: 2x = 14.
4. Divide by 2 and type the answer in the answer box as x = 7.

Answer: x = 7.

On the real exam the checker needs only the final answer, so 7 typed as 14/2 would be marked as unsimplified. A second example from the Geometry chapter is on the OMPT-C syllabus page.

How to prepare for OMPT-C

The official estimate of about 40 hours divides cleanly: 10 hours a week over 4 weeks, or 5 hours a week over 8 weeks, which fits alongside a job or a final school year. This plan spends the hours in the order that matters.

1. Take a timed diagnostic first. Start with the free OMPT practice test for the format, then a full 30-question, 120-minute mock. Score it per chapter, not just in total.
2. Spend the first 4 to 6 hours on Numbers. Fractions, exponents and roots without a calculator show up inside every Algebra and Geometry question, so errors here cost points in three chapters.
3. Give Algebra and Linear formulas and equations the middle block, about 15 to 18 hours together. Work from the topic list on the OMPT-C syllabus and tick topics off; anything not on that list is time you will not get back.
4. Reserve 8 to 10 hours for Geometry, and do it before the last week, because it is the chapter most students have to relearn rather than revise.
5. Finish with two full-length mocks under exam conditions: timer on, on-screen calculator only, three sheets of paper, answers typed. Examify's OMPT-C mock exam has the same question count and time limit as the real module with a worked solution for every question.
6. Book only when the second mock sits 10 to 15 points above your minimum. Slots need 72 hours' notice and results take up to 8 business days, so the test date has to sit at least two weeks before your deadline.

OMPT-C cost

An OMPT-C attempt costs €240 on omptest.org, the same as OMPT-A, B, E and G; only OMPT-D and OMPT-F cost €270. Every attempt is bought separately, so a retake is another €240 and three attempts come to €720. Most programmes allow up to three attempts, but the rule sits on the programme page, not on the OMPT site, so check it before you spend the first one.
