OMPT Extra Time and Accommodations: Dyslexia, ADHD, and How to Apply
Buried in a Reddit thread of OMPT tips is a piece of advice that deserves its own article: "If you have any diagnosis — dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADD, ADHD — send them the scans of the originals along with a sworn translation, and you can get 25% more time." Accommodations exist on the OMPT, but almost nobody writes about how to actually get them.
What accommodations are available
The headline arrangement is extra time — commonly 25% on top of the standard duration, which on a 180-minute variant like OMPT-D means an extra 45 minutes. For students whose diagnosis affects reading speed or sustained attention, that is frequently the difference between a rushed final section and a completed exam.
How to apply
- Request the accommodation before booking your test — the guidance is to submit at least two weeks ahead, and earlier is safer.
- Provide professional documentation of the diagnosis: a statement from a qualified practitioner or an official diagnostic report.
- If your documents aren't in English (or Dutch), have them translated by a sworn/certified translator and send scans of the originals alongside the translation. An informal translation is the most common reason files get bounced.
- Wait for written confirmation that the arrangement is attached to your test account before you schedule the proctored session.
Why the timing rule matters so much
Accommodation processing is manual, and OMPT scheduling already requires booking at least 72 hours ahead — with admission deadlines looming, students who leave the request late end up choosing between testing without their entitled extra time or missing their deadline. If you even suspect you'll want an arrangement, start the paperwork the same week you register.
Preparing when you have extra time
Train the way you'll test. If you're granted 25% extra time, run your practice exams at that adjusted duration — pacing is a learned rhythm, and rehearsing at the wrong tempo wastes the accommodation. Exam.ify's OMPT-style practice tests are self-timed, so you can run the full mock at your granted duration and build the right rhythm from the first session; the per-variant syllabus pages (for example OMPT-A or OMPT-B) tell you exactly which topics to cover.
Exam.ify is an independent prep company and is not affiliated with the official OMPT test or its operator. Accommodation procedures and documentation requirements can change — confirm the current process with official OMPT support well before your intended test date, and check whether your university needs a copy of the arrangement too.
