OMPT-G guide (2026): syllabus, difficulty, universities, pass marks and price

OMPT-G is the OMPT module that adds physics and chemistry to secondary-school mathematics: 26 questions in 180 minutes, 119 topics in 11 chapters, including one chapter on mechanics and one on chemistry. Science and engineering programmes ask for it, such as Amsterdam University College and LUT University. An attempt costs €240 and the test provider suggests about 120 hours of preparation.

OMPT-G exam format

OMPT-G gives you the most time per question of any module except OMPT-D and OMPT-F. The figures below come from the test provider's syllabus and pricing pages.

Almost seven minutes per question sounds generous next to the 2.3 minutes of OMPT-A, but the questions are built to use it. A mechanics question asks you to pick the right equation, rearrange it, substitute and round; a chemistry question may run through moles, mass and molecule counts in one go. There is no partial credit: a computer algebra system checks the final answer, so the last minute of each question, checking units and simplification, is worth as much as the first six. Examify is an independent prep company and is not affiliated with the OMPT, SOWISO or any university.

OMPT-G syllabus: the 11 chapters

The official OMPT-G syllabus lists the 119 topics; Examify's OMPT-G syllabus page groups them by chapter. The chapters are:

1. Linear formulas and equations: rearranging formulas and solving linear equations.
2. Systems of linear equations: solving two or more linear equations together.
3. Quadratic equations: solving quadratics and reading off their solutions.
4. Functions: notation, graphs and the behaviour of standard functions.
5. Exponential functions and logarithms: exponential growth and decay, logarithm rules and the equations that use them.
6. Sequences and series: term formulas and sums of sequences.
7. Trigonometry: sine, cosine and tangent, and trigonometric equations.
8. Geometry basics: the first of two geometry chapters, the plane figures every later geometry question uses.
9. Geometry continued: the second geometry chapter, building on chapter 8.
10. Physics (mechanics): motion and the equations of mechanics.
11. Chemistry: amount of substance and the arithmetic of moles and masses.

Most of chapters 1 to 9 also appear in OMPT-B or OMPT-D, so a student who has prepared for those modules already covers much of the maths. Chapters 10 and 11 appear only in OMPT-G, and they are the ones applicants most often have not touched since school.

Which universities require OMPT-G

Four programmes in Examify's university list accept or require OMPT-G, so all of them are shown here.

From the 2027-28 intake, KU Leuven's Bachelor of Engineering Technology also asks for OMPT-G at 60%, replacing the SAT, ACT and OMPT-D routes; see KU Leuven Engineering Technology and OMPT-G.

OMPT-G is a niche module: the programmes that ask for it are chemistry, process and mechanical engineering degrees, plus AUC's Sciences major, which lets you choose OMPT-B instead and recommends it for calculus-heavy tracks. If your programme is not in this table, check its admissions page, because the module letter and the minimum score are set by the university and change from year to year. OMPT-G pass marks

Published OMPT-G minimums run from 50% to 70%. Arcada asks for 50%, LUT University and Vilnius University for 60%, and Amsterdam University College for 70%. At 26 questions, 60% means about 16 correct answers and 70% about 19.

Aim for 10 to 15 points above the minimum on your final mock. Mock scores move 5 to 10 points between sittings, and the real exam adds a proctor, an ID check and a room scan. A 60% minimum therefore means a 70 to 75% mock; AUC's 70% means 80 to 85%. If your programme has not published a minimum, plan for 75%.

How hard is OMPT-G

OMPT-G is hard because of breadth, not pace. It has fewer topics than any module except OMPT-C (119 against 149 for OMPT-F, 161 for OMPT-E and 242 for OMPT-D), and its 6.9 minutes per question sit between OMPT-E's 3.0 and OMPT-F's 8.6. The test provider still suggests 120 hours, the same as OMPT-D and OMPT-E, because two of the 11 chapters are physics and chemistry rather than maths. An applicant who is strong in algebra and trigonometry can still lose a fifth of the paper on mechanics and moles.

Preparation is the difference. The test provider reports that students who worked through its learning materials scored 76% on average on their first attempt, and students who did not scored 40%. The how hard is the OMPT post compares all seven modules.

Example OMPT-G question with worked solution

This question is one of Examify's own examples from the OMPT-G syllabus page, not a past paper. No official OMPT-G exam PDF is published.

How many moles are in 36 g of water, and how many molecules is that? Take M = 18 g/mol.

1. Use n = m/M with m = 36 g and M = 18 g/mol.
2. n = 36/18 = 2 mol.
3. Multiply by Avogadro's number: 2 · 6.022×10²³.

Answer: 2 mol, about 1.2×10²⁴ molecules.

The arithmetic is short. What costs marks is the input: a power of ten typed wrongly, or a rounded value where the answer box expects a specific form. Try the free questions in the real answer box before you sit a full mock.

How to prepare for OMPT-G

The plan below fits the suggested 120 hours into 8 weeks at 15 hours a week, the realistic default if you start from scratch. At 30 hours a week it compresses to 4 weeks.

1. Week 1: learn the answer format on the free OMPT practice test, then sit a full-length mock (26 questions, 180 minutes) such as Examify's OMPT-G generation-1 mock or the provider's official mock. Score it per chapter.
2. Weeks 2 and 3: the foundation maths, chapters 1 to 5 (linear and quadratic equations, functions, exponentials and logarithms). Most students half know these; spend time only where the mock showed gaps.
3. Weeks 4 and 5: chapters 6 to 9, sequences and series, trigonometry and both geometry chapters. Work from the topic list on the OMPT-G syllabus page and tick topics off.
4. Weeks 6 and 7: physics (mechanics) and chemistry. Give these two chapters their own block, because they are the ones you are least likely to have studied recently. Practise the arithmetic with the on-screen calculator.
5. Week 8: a second full-length mock under exam conditions, three A4 sheets and pencils only. Fix the weak chapters, then book once you sit 10 to 15 points above your minimum.

OMPT-G cost

An OMPT-G attempt costs €240, the same as OMPT-A, B, C and E; only OMPT-D and OMPT-F cost €270. Every attempt is bought separately, so a retake is another €240, and a slot must be booked at least 72 hours ahead; short-notice booking exists at an extra fee. Results arrive within 8 business days. Most programmes allow up to 3 attempts, Arcada states a maximum of 3, and other OMPT-G programmes do not publish a limit, so ask admissions before you treat the first booking as a practice run.
