Is the OMPT Mock Exam the Same as the Real Test?

"I've done both mock exams, and both were the same questions with different numbers. Is the final exam the same?" That question, asked almost word-for-word on r/StudyInTheNetherlands, captures the single most common uncertainty in OMPT prep. The answer is: it depends heavily on which variant you're taking.

For OMPT-A, B, C and E: the mock is a fair preview

Past test-takers of OMPT-A consistently describe the real exam as "nearly identical to the practice material and mock exam" in style and difficulty. The official guidance agrees: for these variants, the real test is designed to match the difficulty of the practice content. If you're scoring comfortably above your university's pass mark on timed mocks, that's a genuinely meaningful signal.

For OMPT-D and OMPT-F: expect a step up

Here's the trap. The official position for OMPT-D and OMPT-F is that the practice material teaches the basic skills, but the real test expects you to combine those skills at a more advanced level. Students feel this hard: "the questions diverge a lot from the practice material," "the Mixed Exercises felt like completely new topics," and — bluntly — "OMPT-D is HELL." OMPT-D gives you only 21 questions in 180 minutes precisely because each one is a multi-step, multi-topic problem.

What this means for your preparation

  • If you're taking A, B, C or E: drill the mock format until timing is comfortable, then stop optimizing — you're seeing the real difficulty already.
  • If you're taking D or F: treat single-topic drills as the floor, not the ceiling. Deliberately practice problems that chain differentiation into optimization, or logarithms into equation-solving, because that combination step is exactly what the real exam adds.
  • In both cases, never judge readiness from untimed practice. The mock-to-real gap students report is often really a timed-versus-untimed gap.

Getting more calibrated mock exams

The official mock costs €90–110 and many students burn through it early, then have nothing realistic left to rehearse with. Exam.ify's independent OMPT-style practice tests are full-length, timed mocks built to mirror each variant's structure and difficulty curve — including the multi-step style of OMPT-D and OMPT-F — with complete worked solutions for every question. We're not affiliated with the official OMPT test or its operator; our exams are written independently by our own team so you can take a fresh, realistic mock whenever you need another calibration point.
