KU Leuven Math Entrance Exam (OMPT)

KU Leuven uses two OMPT modules. The Bachelor of Business Administration in Brussels asks OMPT-A at 75%. The Bachelor of Business Engineering and the Bachelor of Engineering Technology ask OMPT-D at 60%, with SAT or ACT Maths accepted instead. No attempt limit is published for any of the three. KU Leuven OMPT requirements by programme

Three KU Leuven bachelor programmes list the OMPT as proof of mathematics proficiency. The requirement applies to applicants whose secondary education or university diploma was obtained outside the EEA or Switzerland.

The split follows the mathematics load of the programme. Business Administration, the general business bachelor, uses the entry-level OMPT-A and sets the bar high at 75%. Business Engineering and Engineering Technology use OMPT-D, the widest module, and set it at 60%. Both OMPT-D programmes accept two alternatives that need no separate booking if you already hold them: an SAT score of at least 730 in Maths or an ACT score of at least 32 in Maths. The Business Administration page we verified does not list SAT or ACT as substitutes.

Two things are unusual. First, none of the three pages prints an attempt limit. That does not mean attempts are unlimited; it means the rule is not published, so ask admissions before you treat a first booking as a diagnostic. Second, the Engineering Technology page states a five-year validity window for the OMPT-D result. Most Dutch programmes that publish a validity period use two years, so a result taken well ahead of your intended start date stays usable at KU Leuven for longer than usual.

Which OMPT module KU Leuven uses and what it looks like

OMPT-A is the module for the Bachelor of Business Administration.

The eight chapters are Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, and Differentiation. Nothing beyond first-year calculus appears; the difficulty comes from the volume, 52 typed answers in two hours, and from a 75% bar that leaves room for 13 wrong answers at most. OMPT-D is the module for Business Engineering and Engineering Technology.

Its eleven chapters are the OMPT-A list plus three more: Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, Differentiation, Trigonometry, Geometry, and Integration. With 21 questions, each one is worth close to 5% of the score, so at a 60% minimum you can afford about eight wrong answers and no more. KU Leuven OMPT minimum score in context

Most programmes that accept the OMPT set their bar between 60% and 75%, and KU Leuven touches both ends. The Business Administration figure of 75% on OMPT-A matches Maastricht's School of Business and Economics, which also asks 75%, and sits above Erasmus School of Economics, which asks 70% on OMPT-A for IBEB and counts the first attempt only, and above Tilburg University, which asks 70% with a maximum of two attempts. The 60% on OMPT-D for the two engineering programmes is at the lower end, though Radboud University goes lower with 55% on OMPT-D.

The percentage alone understates the OMPT-D workload. A 60% bar on an 11-chapter module with 242 topics asks for more preparation than a 75% bar on the 8-chapter OMPT-A. The test provider reports that students who prepared scored 76% on average on their first attempt, against 40% for those who did not. Since KU Leuven publishes no attempt rule, plan as if you had one shot: aim for a mock score 10 to 15 points above your minimum, so 85 to 90% for OMPT-A and 70 to 75% for OMPT-D. How to prepare for the KU Leuven OMPT test

The plan below follows the test provider's own hour estimates: about 80 for OMPT-A, about 120 for OMPT-D.

1. Sit a full-length diagnostic mock before you open a chapter. Examify's free OMPT practice test shows the answer box and two harder questions per module; the paid OMPT-A generation-1 mock or OMPT-D generation-1 mock matches the real question count and time limit.
2. Score the mock per chapter and rank the chapters. On OMPT-A, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, and Differentiation carry the most topics and deserve the largest share of the 80 hours. On OMPT-D, give Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration their own block, since these are the chapters a general secondary maths background is most likely to lack.
3. Work from the weakest chapter up. A flat 55% is a different job from a 55% made of 90% on Algebra and 20% on Integration, and only the per-chapter score tells you which one you have.
4. Practise the answer format. The OMPT grades a typed final answer, so an exact, simplified expression in the right variable counts and a rounded decimal may not. Drill 20 questions a day in the on-screen editor until the input stops costing you time.
5. Train the clock at your module's pace: about 2.3 minutes per question on OMPT-A, about 8.6 on OMPT-D. Skip and return rather than spend fifteen minutes on one chained OMPT-D item.

Booking, deadlines and results for KU Leuven applicants

The OMPT is booked on omptest.org at least 72 hours before the slot and taken online with a live proctor. Each attempt is paid separately: €240 for OMPT-A, €270 for OMPT-D. Results and the digital certificate arrive within 8 business days.

KU Leuven publishes its own application deadlines per programme and intake, and this page does not repeat them; take the date from your programme page. Counting back from it, the last safe test date is about 12 calendar days before the deadline. If you want one retake in reserve, count back 38 days: 12 for results, 14 to fix weak chapters and rebook, 12 for the second result. Because KU Leuven does not publish an attempt limit, confirm with admissions that a second attempt would be accepted before you rely on that buffer.
