How to book the OMPT: registration, dates, fees and results (2026)

You book the OMPT directly with the test provider at omptest.org, not through your university. Create an account, choose the module your programme asks for, pick a proctored slot at least 72 hours ahead, and pay per attempt: €240 for OMPT-A, B, C, E and G, €270 for OMPT-D and F. Results arrive within 8 business days as a digital certificate.

Examify is an independent prep company and is not affiliated with the OMPT, SOWISO or any university. The booking rules below are the provider's and apply to every candidate; the module and score your programme wants are the parts that vary.

Check which OMPT module your programme requires

Book the module your programme names, not the one that looks easiest. There are seven modules, OMPT-A to OMPT-G, and they differ in length, price and content: OMPT-A has 52 questions in 120 minutes, OMPT-D has 21 questions in 180 minutes and a syllabus that adds geometry, trigonometry and integration. A certificate for the wrong module is €240 spent on nothing.

The module and the minimum score both sit on the programme page, and they vary. 70% on OMPT-A is common, Erasmus School of Economics asks more than 75% on OMPT-D for Econometrics, Tilburg University asks 60% on OMPT-A for some programmes and 70% for others. Our university overview lists the module per programme, and the OMPT passing scores page collects the published thresholds. Read both before you pay.

How to book the OMPT step by step

  1. Create an account with the test provider at omptest.org. Use the name that appears on your photo ID, because the proctor compares the two on exam day.
  2. Choose your module (OMPT-A to OMPT-G) and, if you want it, the practice material or a bundle. Practice access is separate from the test attempt.
  3. Choose a slot. Slots run year-round and must be booked at least 72 hours in advance. Closer than that triggers a late-scheduling surcharge.
  4. Pay the attempt fee: €240 for OMPT-A, B, C, E and G, €270 for OMPT-D and F. Each attempt is bought separately.
  5. Before the day, sort your equipment: a webcam that can show the door behind you, a single monitor, and a government-issued photo ID in the Latin alphabet.
  6. On exam day, log in about 15 minutes early. Automated equipment checks and ID photos come first, then a live proctor verifies your identity, scans the room and checks your desk.
  7. Sit the exam. At the end you tear up your scrap paper on camera before logging out.
  8. Wait for results, within 8 business days, then send the digital certificate to your university. Do not assume the university already has it.

The scheduling rules have a cost attached. Rescheduling or cancelling an existing appointment involves a €50 administration fee unless you request it early enough, so pick a date you are confident about rather than a placeholder.

OMPT fees and add-ons

The base fee depends on the module. Everything else is optional and bought on top. The full breakdown, including what a second attempt with fast grading does to the total, is in how much the OMPT costs.

ItemPriceNotes
Test attempt, OMPT-A/B/C/E/G€240Per attempt, bought separately
Test attempt, OMPT-D/F€270Per attempt, bought separately
Fast gradingAbout €120 per attemptResults within 4 business days instead of 8; can be bought after the test
Late scheduling (under 72 hours)SurchargeAvoid by booking on time
Reschedule or cancel€50 administration feeWaived only if requested early enough
Bundles (test + practice + mock)Roughly €385 to €599Top of the range includes fast grading for OMPT-D/F

A student who buys practice material, one mock, one attempt and then a second attempt with fast grading can spend €700 to €800.

When to book the OMPT before an application deadline

Count back from the deadline, not forward from today. Three provider rules set your latest possible test date: results within 8 business days, which is 10 to 12 calendar days depending on the weekday and longer around Dutch public holidays; a 72-hour booking lead; and a full fee per attempt.

SituationBuffer neededLatest test date
One attempt, standard grading12 calendar days for resultsDeadline minus 12 days
Room for one retake12 (results) + 14 (fix weak chapters, rebook) + 12 (results) = 38 daysDeadline minus 38 days (about 5.5 weeks)

Then add your study time in front of that. An OMPT-A candidate who needs the full 80 hours at 10 hours a week and wants one retake in reserve starts 8 weeks plus 5.5 weeks, so 13 to 14 weeks before the deadline. Around the winter holidays 8 business days can stretch to 12 or more calendar days, so a January deadline pushes the exam into mid-December.

Fast grading changes this only at the margin: if the deadline is more than two weeks after the test date, standard grading is enough.

What you need on OMPT exam day

The exam runs on your own computer with a live proctor watching through ProctorU. The desk rules are strict and the proctor checks them on camera before the timer starts. Read the proctoring rules post a week before, so nothing on this list is a surprise.

  • A government-issued photo ID in the Latin alphabet.
  • A maximum of three blank A4 sheets of scrap paper.
  • Up to three pencils and an eraser. Pens are prohibited.
  • A transparent bottle of water only.
  • Only the on-screen OMPT calculator. Personal calculators are banned.
  • A webcam that shows the door of your room behind you. Secondary monitors unplugged. The secure browser runs full-screen for the whole session.
  • No breaks. Some modules run up to three hours, so use the bathroom right before check-in and drink sparingly.

The scrap paper is never graded, so working you want a grader to see goes in the digital notes field attached to each question. The answer-input guide explains how.

OMPT results and retakes

Results arrive within 8 business days, counted from the day after you submit, as a digital certificate with per-topic scores. Fast grading, about €120 per attempt, cuts that to within 4 business days. Universities verify results through the official admission portal, and accounts connected to a university can report results automatically, but many programmes still require you to upload or email the certificate yourself. Do both. The details are in OMPT results and the certificate explained.

If the score falls short, the retake rules are set by the programme, not by the test provider. Up to three attempts is the common default, each paid in full. Erasmus School of Economics accepts only the first attempt, so for its programmes the exam is effectively a single €240 or €270 shot. VU Amsterdam allows a maximum of two attempts per admission round for several programmes. The published limits are collected in the retake policy post.

Validity is also set by the university. Roughly two academic years is typical; Erasmus University College does not accept a certificate older than two years.

How to prepare before you pay for an attempt

Book when your score is ready, not when the calendar makes you nervous. The provider reports that students who worked through its learning materials scored 76% on average on their first attempt; students who did not scored 40%. A paid attempt used as a diagnostic costs €240 or €270 and, at some programmes, your only chance.

Start with the free OMPT practice test to see where you stand, then work through the chapter list on the syllabus page for your module. Aim for timed mock scores at least 10 percentage points above your programme's requirement, taken with three sheets of paper on the desk and the on-screen calculator instead of your phone. When that number holds across two mocks, book the slot, 72 hours or more ahead, and spend the last days on error review rather than new material.

Frequently asked questions

How far in advance do I have to book the OMPT?

At least 72 hours before the slot you want. Slots run all year, so there is no fixed exam date, but booking closer than 72 hours triggers a late-scheduling surcharge, and rescheduling or cancelling an existing appointment costs a €50 administration fee unless you request it early enough. Book as soon as your mock scores are stable.

How much does one OMPT attempt cost?

€240 for OMPT-A, B, C, E and G, and €270 for OMPT-D and F. Every attempt is bought separately, so three attempts at OMPT-D cost €810. Fast grading is about €120 extra per attempt and cuts the wait for results from within 8 business days to within 4.

When do OMPT results arrive?

Within 8 business days, counted from the day after you submit. Business days exclude weekends and Dutch public holidays, so that is usually 10 to 12 calendar days, and more around the winter holidays. The result comes as a digital certificate with per-topic scores that you send to your university yourself or that reaches it through a connected account.

What ID do I need for the OMPT?

A government-issued photo ID in the Latin alphabet. A live proctor checks it through your webcam before the exam starts, together with a scan of your room and desk. If your passport or ID card uses another script, arrange an acceptable document well before you book, because the check happens on exam day and cannot be skipped.

How many times can I take the OMPT?

Up to three attempts is the common default, each paid in full. The limit sits with the programme, not the test provider: Erasmus School of Economics accepts only the first attempt, and VU Amsterdam allows a maximum of two attempts per admission round for several programmes. Check your programme page before spending an early attempt.

Should I book the OMPT before I have started preparing?

No. A slot only needs 72 hours' notice, so there is no advantage in booking months ahead. Take a timed mock first, then book when your score sits at least 10 percentage points above your programme's pass mark. Booking too early means paying the €50 rescheduling fee or sitting an attempt you may not be allowed to repeat.
