Tilburg University Math Entrance Exam (OMPT)

Tilburg University requires OMPT-A for eight of its nine bachelor programmes and OMPT-D for Econometrics and Operations Research. The Economics and Management bachelors, Cognitive Science and AI, and Econometrics ask for 70% with a maximum of two attempts; the four Social and Behavioral Sciences bachelors ask for 60%. Tilburg University OMPT requirements by programme

Tilburg publishes one table for all programmes with a mathematics requirement. The nine rows below are the ones that name an OMPT module; every row comes from the same mathematics requirements page.

The pattern follows the academic field. Economics and Management sets the bar at 70% and adds the two-attempt cap; Econometrics is the only programme on OMPT-D, which reflects its heavier calculus content. Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence, in Humanities and Digital Sciences, uses the same 70% and two-attempt rule as the economics bachelors. Social and Behavioral Sciences asks for 60% on OMPT-A, and the Psychology row describes that level as the equivalent of Havo Maths A or B.

Two things are not on the rows Examify checked. The table does not name an alternative test such as CCVX or Boswell-Bèta next to the OMPT entries, and it does not state how long an OMPT result stays valid. If either matters for your application, read the full page for your diploma type or ask Tilburg admissions before you spend an attempt.

Which OMPT module Tilburg University uses and what it looks like

Tilburg uses two modules: OMPT-A for eight programmes and OMPT-D for one. The formats below come from the official syllabus pages.

OMPT-A covers Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, and Differentiation. It is the entry-level module: core algebra and pre-calculus without trigonometry or integration. Functions and Differentiation are the largest chapters, so a Tilburg applicant at 70% cannot afford to be weak in either. The chapter-by-chapter topic list is on Examify's OMPT-A syllabus page.

OMPT-D contains all eight OMPT-A chapters plus Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration. With only 21 questions in three hours, each question chains several topics, and the provider's estimate of 120 hours is 50% more than for OMPT-A. Econometrics applicants should treat the extra three chapters as the main workload, since the first eight overlap with what economics applicants prepare. Tilburg University OMPT minimum score in context

Tilburg's 70% sits in the middle of the 60% to 75% range that most programmes use, and its 60% for Social and Behavioral Sciences is at the low end. Erasmus School of Economics asks IBEB applicants for 70% on OMPT-A, first attempt only, so Tilburg's two-attempt cap is the more forgiving of the two economics routes. Maastricht School of Business and Economics asks for 75% on OMPT-A, five points above Tilburg. Radboud asks for 55% on OMPT-D, which makes Tilburg's 70% on OMPT-D for Econometrics a notably higher bar on the harder module.

What the percentages mean in questions: 70% on OMPT-A is about 37 correct answers out of 52, and 60% is about 31. On OMPT-D, 70% is 15 of 21 questions, so each wrong answer costs nearly 5 percentage points. Mock scores move 5 to 10 points between sittings and the real exam adds a proctor, an ID check and a room scan, so aim 10 to 15 points above your threshold on a mock: 80 to 85% for the 70% programmes, 70 to 75% for the 60% programmes. How to prepare for the Tilburg University OMPT test

The two-attempt cap means the first booking is not a rehearsal. Plan the preparation around the official hours, 80 for OMPT-A and 120 for OMPT-D, and use mocks to decide when to book.

1. Sit a full-length diagnostic mock before studying: 52 questions in 120 minutes for OMPT-A, 21 in 180 minutes for OMPT-D. 2. Score the mock per chapter and rank the chapters from weakest to strongest. Chapters below about 70% set your study list; add up their share of the topics to estimate how much of the 80 or 120 hours you need. How long OMPT preparation takes has the arithmetic per module.
3. Work through the weak chapters in syllabus order, starting with the foundations every later question depends on (Numbers, Algebra, Quadratic equations) and giving Functions and Differentiation the largest share. Econometrics applicants add Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration as a separate block.
4. Practise in the answer format from the first week. The OMPT checks every final answer with a computer algebra system and a mathematician reviews it; a correct method with an ambiguous final answer earns nothing.
5. From the second week, time every set: 2.3 minutes per question for OMPT-A, 8.5 for OMPT-D. A 70% threshold with a two-attempt cap does not leave room for running out of time on the last ten questions.
6. Sit a second full mock about a week before the planned test date. Book only if it lands at least 10 points above your Tilburg threshold; otherwise move the date. Booking, deadlines and results for Tilburg University applicants

An OMPT slot must be booked at least 72 hours in advance. Each attempt is paid separately: €240 for OMPT-A and €270 for OMPT-D, so two attempts at OMPT-D come to €540. Results and the digital certificate arrive within 8 business days, which is 10 to 12 calendar days depending on the weekday.

Tilburg does not publish its application deadline on the mathematics requirements page, so take the deadline from your programme's admission page and count backwards. With one attempt, the last safe test date is about 12 calendar days before the deadline. If you want the second attempt Tilburg allows in reserve, the first test should sit about 38 days before the deadline: 12 days for results, 14 days to fix weak chapters and rebook, 12 days for the second result.
