University of Amsterdam Math Entrance Exam (OMPT)

The University of Amsterdam (UvA) requires three different OMPT modules depending on the programme: OMPT-A at 70% for Psychology and PPLE, OMPT-F at 60% with one attempt only for Business Administration and Economics and Business Economics, and OMPT-D at 70% with up to three attempts for Business Analytics, Econometrics and Data Science and Actuarial Science. University of Amsterdam OMPT requirements by programme

Seven UvA bachelor's programmes publish an OMPT route. The table lists each with the module, minimum and attempt rule as printed on the programme page.

The pattern follows the faculty. Psychology and PPLE ask for the entry-level OMPT-A at 70%. The two bachelors at Mathematics A level (Business Administration, Economics and Business Economics) ask for OMPT-F at 60%, one attempt only. The three quantitative programmes at Mathematics B level ask for OMPT-D at 70% with three attempts. Actuarial Science lists both routes: OMPT-D at 70% with three attempts, or OMPT-F at 60% with one.

Two details matter before you book. For Business Analytics and Econometrics and Data Science the OMPT-D is a mandatory additional test for certain diploma types, so read your own diploma's entry on the programme page. And the non-OMPT alternatives differ per page: the KdVI test for PPLE, KdVI maths courses and James Boswell Institute VWO certificates for Psychology. The UvA pages quote the OMPT-D fee as roughly €250; the test provider's pricing page lists €270 per attempt for OMPT-D and OMPT-F and €240 for OMPT-A. Which OMPT modules the University of Amsterdam uses and what they look like

UvA uses OMPT-A, OMPT-D and OMPT-F. They differ in length, time per question and chapter count, so the same 70% means a different exam per programme.

OMPT-A is the entry-level module. Its eight chapters are Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, and Differentiation. OMPT-F drops Numbers and Systems of linear equations and goes deeper on the rest: Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, and Differentiation. OMPT-D contains all eight OMPT-A chapters plus Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration, which is why the provider's preparation estimate is 120 hours rather than 80. University of Amsterdam OMPT minimum score in context

UvA's thresholds sit inside the 60% to 75% band most partner programmes use. Its 70% matches Erasmus School of Economics (70% on OMPT-A for IBEB, first attempt only) and Tilburg University (70%, maximum two attempts). Maastricht's School of Business and Economics sits higher at 75%; Radboud University accepts 55% on OMPT-D for several programmes, the lowest published threshold among the large Dutch universities.

The 60% on OMPT-F for Business Administration and Economics and Business Economics looks lenient, but the one-attempt rule makes it the strictest requirement at UvA in practice: a 58% on the day ends the OMPT route. Whatever your programme, aim 10 to 15 points above the minimum on a timed mock before you book; mock scores move 5 to 10 points between sittings and the real exam adds a proctor and a room scan. How to prepare for the University of Amsterdam OMPT test

Plan around the provider's hour estimate for your module: 80 hours for OMPT-A or OMPT-F, 120 for OMPT-D. Students who used the provider's learning materials scored 76% on average on their first attempt, against 40% for those who did not.

1. Sit a diagnostic mock under exam conditions in week 1, with the real question count and time limit. Score it per chapter, not just overall.
2. Rank the chapters by points lost. On OMPT-A and OMPT-D, Functions and Differentiation usually carry the most topics; on OMPT-D add Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration if they are new to you.
3. Spend 60 to 70% of your hours on the weakest chapters, working from the syllabus topic list rather than random exercises.
4. Practise the answer format from the start. The OMPT grades typed final answers, so exact, simplified forms in the variable the question uses are part of the skill.
5. Train timing at the module's pace: about 2.3 minutes per question on OMPT-A, about 8.6 on OMPT-D and OMPT-F. On the 21-question modules, decide early which questions to leave and return to.
6. Sit a second full mock about a week before your planned booking. Book only if it lands 10 to 15 points above your minimum; otherwise move the date, especially for the one-attempt OMPT-F programmes.

Booking, deadlines and results for University of Amsterdam applicants

The test provider's rules fix the timeline. A slot must be booked at least 72 hours in advance. Each attempt is paid in full: €240 for OMPT-A, €270 for OMPT-D and OMPT-F. Results and the digital certificate arrive within 8 business days, which is 10 to 12 calendar days depending on the weekday.

Work back from your programme's certificate deadline, which UvA publishes per programme and per intake. The last safe test date is about 12 calendar days before the deadline. If you want one retake in reserve, which only the OMPT-D programmes allow, the first test should sit about 38 days before the deadline: 12 days for results, 14 days to fix weak chapters and rebook, 12 days for the second result.
