Erasmus University College OMPT Requirements (2026)
Erasmus University College (EUC) is the liberal arts and sciences college of Erasmus University Rotterdam. It runs one bachelor, the BSc Liberal Arts and Sciences, and it publishes one mathematics test route for applicants whose diploma does not meet the maths requirement: the OMPT-A with a minimum score of 70%. Below is what the EUC page says, what it leaves out, how EUC differs from the two other "Erasmus" names on the same campus, and how to budget the roughly 80 hours the test provider suggests for OMPT-A.
What EUC requires: OMPT-A at 70%
The EUC admission-requirements page lists the OMPT-A under "Supplementary mathematics test". You take it if your diploma does not meet the mathematics requirement, and the required score is a minimum of 70%. The same page states that an OMPT-A score older than two years is no longer considered valid by EUC.
The 70% figure repeats in EUC's diploma-by-diploma table. For a Turkish Lise Diploması, a Portuguese Diploma do Ensino Secundário, a Thai Certificate of Secondary Education or a Dutch HBO propedeuse, the maths column reads "Minimum score of 70% for OMPT-A". For an American High School Diploma the alternative is a score of 3 on AP Calculus AB or BC. For the International Baccalaureate, only Applications & Interpretation SL triggers the OMPT-A; Analysis & Approaches SL (5), Analysis & Approaches HL (4) and Applications & Interpretation HL (5) count on their own.
One detail that catches applicants: EUC accepts the SAT (minimum 1170) and the ACT (minimum composite 27) as supplementary tests, but only for the average-grade requirement. The page says an SAT or ACT cannot supplement the OMPT-A. If maths is your gap, the OMPT-A is the only listed route.
What EUC publishes, and what it does not
| Item | What the EUC page says |
|---|---|
| Module | OMPT-A |
| Minimum score | 70% |
| Score validity | 2 years |
| Number of attempts | Not published — check the programme page |
| Deadline for submitting the score | Not published on the requirements page — check the programme page |
| SAT or ACT instead of OMPT-A | Not accepted (SAT/ACT cover the average-grade requirement only) |
The two blank rows matter for planning. Because EUC does not cap attempts on its requirements page, the practical limits are the €240 fee per attempt and the time it takes to get a result. Because no separate OMPT deadline is listed, treat EUC's general application deadline as your cut-off and confirm with admissions if you are close to it. Our Erasmus University College page tracks the stored values and the date we last verified them.
EUC, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Erasmus School of Economics: three names, three rules
Searches for "Erasmus OMPT" mix up three institutions. They share the Woudestein campus in Rotterdam, but each publishes its own module, minimum and attempt rule.
| Institution | Programme(s) | Module | Minimum | Attempts | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Erasmus University College (liberal arts and sciences college) | BSc Liberal Arts and Sciences | OMPT-A | 70% | Not published | EUC admission requirements |
| Erasmus University Rotterdam (the university) | No university-wide rule; each faculty sets its own | Varies by faculty | Varies | Varies | EUR overview |
| Erasmus School of Economics (faculty) | International Bachelor Economics and Business Economics (IBEB) | OMPT-A or OMPT-B | 70% (OMPT-A) or 60% (OMPT-B) | First attempt only | IBEB admission |
Two more EUR faculties are worth knowing if you apply to several Rotterdam programmes with one score. Erasmus School of Economics also runs the International Bachelor Econometrics and Operations Research, which asks for OMPT-D above 75%, first attempt only. Rotterdam School of Management asks for OMPT-A or OMPT-F at 75% for its BSc International Business Administration, with a maximum of two attempts. All three are covered in our Erasmus University Rotterdam post.
The combination that needs the most care is EUC plus IBEB. EUC's 70% and IBEB's 70% on OMPT-A look identical, but ESE counts only your first attempt. A retake that lifts you from 65% to 72% would satisfy EUC and still fail IBEB. If both are on your list, prepare so that the first attempt is the one that counts.
OMPT-A in numbers
| OMPT-A | Value |
|---|---|
| Questions | 52 |
| Time | 120 minutes (about 2.3 minutes per question) |
| Topics in the syllabus | 176 |
| Suggested preparation | About 80 hours |
| Fee | €240 per attempt |
| Results | Within 8 business days |
| Booking | At least 72 hours before the slot, proctored via ProctorU (ID check and room scan) |
The syllabus covers eight chapters: numbers, algebra, linear formulas and equations, systems of linear equations, quadratic equations, functions, exponential functions and logarithms, and differentiation. The full topic list is on the official OMPT-A syllabus; our OMPT-A syllabus page groups the same 176 topics by chapter.
Grading is worth understanding before you practise. Answers are checked by a computer-algebra system (Maxima) and reviewed by a mathematician. Do not count on partial credit for a wrong final answer, although a human reviews how answers were entered. Your answer has to be mathematically correct and unambiguous; a correct value written in a form the system cannot read is a risk you can remove by practising the input format.
Study budget: 80 hours over 4, 6 or 8 weeks
The test provider's ~80 hours is a total, not a rate. Spread over your available weeks it looks like this.
| Timeline | Hours per week | Hours per day (5 study days) | Fits if |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 weeks | 20 h | 4 h | You have a gap between school and the deadline and no other exams |
| 6 weeks | About 13 h | About 2.5 h | You are studying alongside final school exams |
| 8 weeks | 10 h | 2 h | You start from a weak base or work part-time |
Whatever the timeline, keep the shape the same. Spend the first 10 to 15% of your hours on a timed diagnostic and on mapping which of the eight chapters cost you points. Spend the middle 60 to 70% on those chapters, working from the syllabus topic list rather than from random exercises. Reserve the last 15 to 20% for full-length timed sets of 52 questions, because the 120-minute limit is where prepared candidates still lose marks.
Applicants with 176 topics and a 70% target should expect to be comfortable on roughly 130 of them and merely competent on the rest. Differentiation and exponential functions and logarithms are the chapters that most often separate a 60% from a 70% result, so give them more than their proportional share.
Planning the attempt around the two-year window
- Count validity back from the date EUC assesses your application, not from your test date. A score from September 2024 is at the edge for a 2026 application.
- Results take up to 8 business days and booking needs 72 hours' notice, so the earliest realistic gap between "decide to sit" and "certificate in hand" is about two weeks. Leave three.
- EUC does not publish an attempt limit. Most programmes allow up to three attempts, but the rule sits with each programme; our retake policy post collects the published limits.
- Every attempt is bought separately at €240, so a second attempt is a budget decision as much as an academic one.
- If IBEB is also on your list, the first attempt is the only one ESE will see.
Next step
A timed run through 52 questions tells you which column of the study-budget table you belong in. Examify's paid OMPT-A set is a full-length generation-1 mock with the same question count and time limit as the real module, with a worked solution for every question. The free OMPT-A practice test is shorter: two of the harder generation-1 questions in the real answer box, with the solution after each, enough to learn the input format before the timed run. For the score bars other Dutch programmes publish, see OMPT pass marks by university or browse the full university list.
Examify is an independent preparation provider and is not affiliated with the OMPT, SOWISO, Erasmus University College or any university.
Frequently asked questions
Which OMPT module does Erasmus University College require?
Erasmus University College requires the OMPT-A with a minimum score of 70% for BSc Liberal Arts and Sciences applicants whose diploma does not meet the mathematics requirement. EUC treats an OMPT-A score older than two years as no longer valid.
What is the minimum OMPT-A score for EUC?
The minimum is 70%. EUC applies the same 70% to every diploma in its requirements table that lists the test, including the Turkish Lise Diploması, the Portuguese Diploma do Ensino Secundário and the Dutch HBO propedeuse; no diploma gets a lower threshold.
Is Erasmus University College the same as Erasmus University Rotterdam?
No. EUC is the liberal arts and sciences college within Erasmus University Rotterdam, and each EUR faculty sets its own OMPT rule. Erasmus School of Economics asks for OMPT-A at 70% or OMPT-B at 60% for IBEB, first attempt only, while Rotterdam School of Management asks for OMPT-A or OMPT-F at 75% with a maximum of two attempts.
How many OMPT attempts does Erasmus University College allow?
EUC does not publish an attempt limit on its admission-requirements page. Most programmes allow up to three attempts, each bought separately at €240, but Erasmus School of Economics counts only the first attempt, so check the programme page before planning a retake.
How long does it take to prepare for the EUC OMPT-A?
The test provider suggests about 80 hours for the 176 OMPT-A topics. That is 20 hours a week over 4 weeks, about 13 hours a week over 6 weeks, or 10 hours a week over 8 weeks, with the final stretch spent on timed 52-question sets inside the 120-minute limit.
