When to take the OMPT for a Leiden University application

All five programmes sit in one faculty and one document, so the pattern is simple. The Faculty of Science treats the OMPT as a replacement exam for the mathematics component of the diploma, with OMPT-D, the 11-chapter module that includes Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration, for the four programmes that lean on calculus, and OMPT-A, the 8-chapter module that stops at Differentiation, for Science for Sustainable Societies. The threshold is 60% in every row.
Three things are worth noting. The alternatives are the same for every programme: a Boswell-Bèta certificate, the Vwo state exam or CCVX. The document does not state an attempt limit or a validity period, so "no limit published" is not the same as "unlimited"; ask admissions before you plan on a resit. And Leiden's other faculties are not covered by this document, so a programme outside the Faculty of Science needs its own check. Its 8 chapters are the first 8 of OMPT-D: Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms and Differentiation. Leiden University OMPT minimum score in context
Leiden's 60% sits at the bottom of the 60 to 75% range most programmes use. Erasmus School of Economics asks IBEB applicants for 70% on OMPT-A and counts the first attempt only. Maastricht School of Business and Economics asks 75%. Tilburg University asks 70% with a maximum of two attempts. Radboud University goes lower still, at 55% on OMPT-D. Against those, 60% on OMPT-D at Leiden means you can lose 8 of 21 questions and still pass, and 60% on OMPT-A means about 31 correct answers out of 52.
The module matters more than the percentage here. A 60% on OMPT-D asks for working knowledge of Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration, which are absent from OMPT-A; the lower bar does not remove the longer syllabus. Mock scores move 5 to 10 points between sittings, and the real exam adds a proctor and answers graded by a computer algebra system with no partial credit. How to prepare for the Leiden University OMPT test
The plan below uses the test provider's hour estimates: about 120 hours for OMPT-D, 80 hours for OMPT-A. A diagnostic usually cuts those numbers.
- Sit a full-length diagnostic mock under exam conditions before you study: 21 questions in 180 minutes for OMPT-D, 52 questions in 120 minutes for OMPT-A. - Score the mock per chapter and rank the 11 (or 8) chapters from weakest to strongest. Chapters below about 70% get the hours; the rest get a timed sweep in the last week. For OMPT-D that usually means Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration; for OMPT-A, Functions and Differentiation, which together hold 69 of the 176 topics. - Practise the answer format from week one. Answers are checked by a computer algebra system and a correct method with an ambiguous final answer scores nothing, so type every answer exactly as you would on the exam.
