LUT University Math Entrance Exam (OMPT)

LUT University requires a 60% OMPT score for every bachelor programme, with the module set by field: OMPT-G for Chemical and Process Engineering, OMPT-D for Computational Science and AI, OMPT-B or OMPT-D for the six other engineering bachelors, and OMPT-F for the two business bachelors. The SAT is accepted as an alternative. Examify verified this on the official admission page on 23 July 2026.

LUT University OMPT requirements by programme

LUT publishes its OMPT rules on one page, the admission criteria for non-EU/EEA applicants. The four rows below are how that page groups the programmes; the third row covers six bachelors under one rule.

The pattern: one threshold, four modules, and the module follows the subject. The chemistry programme gets OMPT-G with its physics and chemistry chapters, the business programmes get OMPT-F, and the general engineering cluster can choose between OMPT-B and OMPT-D.

The earlier version of this guide, based on the same LUT page, recorded a maximum of two attempts (a third attempt is not accepted) and a one-year validity window for the score. Which OMPT modules LUT University uses and what they look like

OMPT-G covers Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, Sequences and series, Trigonometry, Geometry basics, Geometry continued, Physics (mechanics) and Chemistry. Chapter list: OMPT-G syllabus.

OMPT-D covers Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, Differentiation, Trigonometry, Geometry and Integration. With 242 topics and 21 questions, each question chains several skills. Chapter list: OMPT-D syllabus.

OMPT-B covers the same chapters as OMPT-D minus Geometry: Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, Differentiation, Trigonometry and Integration. For the six programmes that accept either module, OMPT-B is the smaller syllabus (226 topics against 242), the shorter estimate (100 hours against 120) and the cheaper attempt (€240 against €270). OMPT-F covers Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms and Differentiation. There is no trigonometry, geometry or integration; the module goes deeper into fewer chapters. Chapter list: OMPT-F syllabus.

LUT University OMPT minimum score in context

LUT's 60% sits at the bottom of the 60% to 75% range that most OMPT partner programmes use. Erasmus School of Economics asks IBEB applicants for 70% on OMPT-A and counts only the first attempt. Maastricht School of Business and Economics asks 75%. Tilburg asks 70% with a maximum of two attempts. Radboud, at 55% on OMPT-D, is one of the few thresholds below LUT's.

A 60% bar is not a reason to skip preparation. The test provider reports that students who did not practise scored 40% on average on their first attempt, well under LUT's line, while those who did scored 76%. Aim 10 to 15 points above the threshold on a mock, so 70 to 75%, because mock scores move by 5 to 10 points between sittings and the real exam adds a proctor, an ID check and a room scan. How to prepare for the LUT University OMPT test

Plan around the official hours for your module: 80 for OMPT-F, 100 for OMPT-B, 120 for OMPT-D and OMPT-G. If the two-attempt cap applies, the first booking is not a rehearsal.

1. Sit a full-length diagnostic mock before studying, at the real length: 26 questions in 180 minutes for OMPT-G, 21 in 180 for OMPT-D or OMPT-F, 64 in 150 for OMPT-B. 2. Score the mock per chapter and rank the chapters from weakest to strongest. Chapters below about 70% form your study list; their share of the topics tells you how much of the official budget you need. The arithmetic per module is in how long OMPT preparation takes.
3. Engineering-cluster applicants: sit an OMPT-B mock first and switch to OMPT-D only if Geometry is a strength and you score higher on long, chained questions.
4. Work through the weak chapters in syllabus order, foundations first. OMPT-G candidates should treat Physics (mechanics) and Chemistry as a separate block.
5. Practise in the answer format from week one. The OMPT checks every final answer with a computer algebra system, and a correct method with an ambiguous final answer earns nothing.
6. From the second week, time every set at your module's pace: 2.3 minutes per question for OMPT-B, 6.9 for OMPT-G, 8.5 for OMPT-D and OMPT-F.

Booking, deadlines and results for LUT University applicants

An OMPT slot must be booked at least 72 hours in advance. Each attempt is paid separately: €240 for OMPT-B and OMPT-G, €270 for OMPT-D and OMPT-F. Results arrive within 8 business days, which is 10 to 12 calendar days depending on the weekday.

LUT runs rolling admission for these bachelors and does not state an OMPT deadline on the admission criteria page, so take the date from your programme's application page and count backwards. With one attempt, the last safe test date is about 12 calendar days before the deadline. With a retake in reserve, the first test should sit about 38 days before it: 12 days for results, 14 days to fix weak chapters and rebook, 12 days for the second result.
