University College Fryslân Math Entrance Exam (OMPT)

University College Fryslân (UCF), the Leeuwarden college of the University of Groningen's Campus Fryslân, accepts the OMPT for one bachelor programme: the BSc Data Science and Society. The admission page asks for OMPT-A or OMPT-B with a minimum average score of 60%, no subsection score of 0%, and a maximum of two attempts. You only need it if the admissions team judges your school mathematics to be below Dutch VWO Wiskunde A or B. Examify verified this on the official Campus Fryslân and University of Groningen pages on 27 September 2026.

University College Fryslân OMPT requirements by programme

UCF's other bachelor, Global Politics and Sustainability, appears on the Campus Fryslân application overview with a diploma and an English requirement but no mathematics requirement. The OMPT does not come into it.

For Data Science and Society the OMPT is a fallback, and the page sets out the order clearly. If your diploma includes VWO Wiskunde A or B, AP Statistics or AP Calculus AB/BC at grade 3 to 5, a GCE A-level in Mathematics, Further Mathematics or Pure Mathematics, IB Mathematics at SL or HL (Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretation), or European Baccalaureate Mathematics at 3 or 5 periods, your maths is covered. Everyone else uploads a Mathematics Course Description Checklist with the online application. If admissions decides that level is insufficient, you have to obtain one of four accepted certificates before the programme starts: a VWO Mathematics A, B or C certificate from CCVX or Boswell-Bèta, the OMPT, an AP exam, or a GCE A or AS level in Mathematics.

Two official pages do not match on the details. The programme page, last modified on 4 March 2026, lists OMPT-A or OMPT-B. The University of Groningen's central list of accepted certificates for 2026/2027 names only OMPT-A for Data Science and Society, with the same 60% average, the same 0% subsection rule and the same two attempts. That list also names Wiskunde A or B for the CCVX and Boswell-Bèta route, where the programme page adds Wiskunde C. The OMPT's own exceptions page confirms the two-attempt limit. Neither university page publishes a validity period for an OMPT result.

Which OMPT module to take for University College Fryslân and what it looks like

Take OMPT-A. It is the only module both university pages accept, and OMPT-B gives you nothing extra for this programme. The figures below come from the official OMPT-A and OMPT-B syllabi.

OMPT-B contains all eight OMPT-A chapters and adds Trigonometry and Integration. Both modules face the same 60% bar at UCF, so B means 12 more questions, 30 more minutes, about 20 more hours of study and two more chapters that must not come back at 0%. The one case for B is a double application: if you also apply to a programme that asks for OMPT-B, such as Econometrics and Operations Research at the Faculty of Economics and Business in Groningen (60%), one certificate could cover both. Get B confirmed in writing by the programme at cf-dss@rug.nl before you book, because the central 2026/2027 list does not mention it.

The eight OMPT-A chapters are Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, and Differentiation. The first five are secondary-school algebra. Functions and Differentiation are the largest chapters, and Exponential functions and logarithms is the one applicants most often find rusty. The topic counts per chapter are on Examify's OMPT-A syllabus page, and the two extra chapters are on the OMPT-B syllabus page.

University College Fryslân OMPT minimum score in context

At 60%, UCF sits at the lower end of the 60% to 75% range most programmes use. It matches the University of Groningen's Faculty of Economics and Business, which asks 60% on OMPT-A for Business Administration, International Business and Economics and Business Economics, as well as Leiden's Science for Sustainable Societies and Tilburg's social science programmes. It is below Erasmus University College and Tilburg's Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence at 70%, and Utrecht and Maastricht SBE at 75%. Another data science bachelor, Data Science and Artificial Intelligence at Maastricht, asks 60% on OMPT-D, a longer and harder module. UCF keeps its data science programme on OMPT-A.

The number looks friendly. The two conditions next to it are what make UCF different. On OMPT-A, 60% means about 32 correct answers out of 52, so you can miss 20. But the certificate lists your score per topic, and UCF rejects a result with a 0% subsection even when the average clears 60%. The page does not define subsection, so treat every chapter on your certificate as one that has to score. An applicant who skips Differentiation and does well everywhere else can pass the average and still be refused.

The second condition is the attempt limit. Two attempts leave less room than the three most OMPT programmes allow, and less than Utrecht or Maastricht SBE give at a much higher bar. How to prepare for the University College Fryslân OMPT test

The official estimate for OMPT-A is about 80 hours. With a 60% target many applicants need fewer, but the 0% rule means you cannot cut hours by dropping whole chapters. The plan below puts coverage first and polish second.

1. Sit a full-length diagnostic mock: 52 questions, 120 minutes, timer on, answers typed. The free OMPT practice test shows two of the harder OMPT-A questions in the real answer box so you learn the input rules; then take the full OMPT-A generation-1 mock built by Examify.
2. Score the mock per chapter. Mark every chapter below 30% as a risk. Those chapters get the first hours, before anything else, because one of them at 0% on the real test cancels the whole result.
3. Build a floor under every chapter before you raise the strong ones. Lifting a blank chapter from 0% to 40% protects your certificate; lifting a strong one from 80% to 90% only adds points.
4. Then spend the bulk of the remaining hours on Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, and Differentiation. These are the largest chapters and the ones where "method unknown" errors live.
5. Practise in the answer format from day one. The OMPT checks final answers with a computer algebra system and a mathematician reviews formatting, so a correct method with an ambiguous final answer earns nothing.
6. From week two, work every drill set at 2.3 minutes per question. Running out of time before the last chapter is how candidates end up with an unplanned 0%.
7. Take a second full mock about a week before your planned test date. Book only if it lands at 75% or above with every chapter scoring. Otherwise move the slot rather than spend one of your two attempts.

Booking, deadlines and results for University College Fryslân applicants

An OMPT-A slot has to be booked at least 72 hours in advance, and each attempt costs €240 (€270 applies only to OMPT-D and OMPT-F, which UCF does not use). Results and the digital certificate arrive within 8 business days, which is about 12 calendar days depending on the weekday.

The application deadline for Data Science and Society is 1 May 2027 on the Campus Fryslân overview. The maths certificate works on a different clock: if admissions asks for one, the page says you must obtain it before the programme starts. The page does not print a start date, so take it from the programme page and count backwards. One attempt with no buffer needs about 12 calendar days before that date. Keeping the second attempt in reserve needs 38 days: 12 for the first result, 14 to fix the weak chapters and rebook, and 12 for the second result. Put your study weeks in front of that.

If your school course stopped before derivatives or logarithms, start studying when you submit the checklist rather than when the decision letter arrives.
