Maastricht University Math Entrance Exam (OMPT)

Maastricht University uses three OMPT modules. The School of Business and Economics asks OMPT-A at 75% for International Business, Economics and Business Economics, and Fiscal Economics, with 3 attempts, and OMPT-B for Econometrics, Business Analytics and Business Engineering. Maastricht University OMPT requirements by programme

Eight Maastricht bachelor programmes list the OMPT: five in the School of Business and Economics (SBE), three in the Faculty of Science and Engineering.

The pattern follows the mathematics load of the first year. The three business and economics bachelors use the entry-level OMPT-A and set one of the highest published thresholds in the Netherlands, 75%. International Business adds a grey zone: a score between 70 and 74% is not an automatic fail, it is considered individually. The three quantitative SBE programmes use OMPT-B, the module that adds trigonometry and integration, and the SBE page we verified does not print a minimum for them. Treat that as unpublished and ask SBE admissions for the current figure.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering takes a different route. Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science ask for OMPT-D, the widest module, at 60%, and cap the OMPT at 2 attempts. Their admission documents also list three alternatives: an on-site entrance exam in Maastricht, an external VWO Maths B course, or the Colloquium Doctum. For an applicant abroad the OMPT is the only one of the four that needs no travel.

Which OMPT module Maastricht University uses and what it looks like

OMPT-A is the SBE module for International Business, Economics and Business Economics, and Fiscal Economics.

OMPT-B is the module for Econometrics and Operations Research, Business Analytics and Business Engineering.

OMPT-D is the module for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and for Computer Science.

Its eleven chapters are the OMPT-B list plus Geometry: Numbers, Algebra, Linear formulas and equations, Systems of linear equations, Quadratic equations, Functions, Exponential functions and logarithms, Differentiation, Trigonometry, Geometry, and Integration. With only 21 questions, each one carries close to 5% of the score, so a single blank question costs almost a tenth of the 60% margin. Read the OMPT-D syllabus page before you plan.

Maastricht University OMPT minimum score in context

Most programmes that accept the OMPT set their bar between 60% and 75%. Maastricht's SBE sits at the top of that range with 75% on OMPT-A, above Erasmus School of Economics, which asks 70% on OMPT-A for IBEB and counts the first attempt only, and above Tilburg University, which asks 70% with a maximum of 2 attempts. The Maastricht OMPT-D requirement of 60% is at the low end, though Radboud University goes lower still with 55% on OMPT-D.

Two things soften the SBE number. Maastricht allows 3 attempts, where Erasmus allows one, and International Business reviews 70 to 74% case by case. Neither should change your target. The test provider reports that students who prepared scored 76% on average on their first attempt, against 40% for those who did not, and 76% is one point above the SBE bar. Aim for a mock score 10 to 15 points above your minimum: 85 to 90% for OMPT-A, 70 to 75% for OMPT-D. The full comparison is in OMPT passing scores by university.

How to prepare for the Maastricht University OMPT test

The plan below follows the test provider's own hour estimates: 80 for OMPT-A, 100 for OMPT-B, 120 for OMPT-D.

1. Sit a full-length diagnostic mock before studying. Examify's free OMPT practice test shows the answer box and two harder questions per module; the paid OMPT-A generation-1 mock, OMPT-B mock or OMPT-D mock matches the real question count and time limit.
2. Score the mock per chapter and rank the chapters. For OMPT-A that is eight chapters; Functions and Differentiation carry the most topics and deserve the largest share of the 80 hours.
3. Work chapter by chapter from the weakest up. OMPT-B and OMPT-D applicants should give Trigonometry and Integration (and Geometry for OMPT-D) their own block, since these are the chapters a VWO Maths A background is missing.
4. Practise the answer format. The OMPT grades a typed final answer, so an exact, simplified expression in the right variable counts and a decimal approximation may not. Drill 20 questions a day in the on-screen editor.
5. Train the clock at your module's pace: about 2.3 minutes per question on OMPT-A and OMPT-B, about 8.6 on OMPT-D. Skip and return rather than sink ten minutes into one item.

Booking, deadlines and results for Maastricht University applicants

The OMPT is booked on omptest.org at least 72 hours before the slot and taken online with a live proctor. Each attempt is paid separately: €240 for OMPT-A and OMPT-B, €270 for OMPT-D. Results and the digital certificate arrive within 8 business days.

Maastricht University publishes its own application deadlines per programme and intake, and this page does not repeat them; take the date from your programme page. Counting back from it, the last safe test date is about 12 calendar days before the deadline. If you want one retake in reserve, which the SBE 3-attempt rule and the FSE 2-attempt rule both allow, count back 38 days: 12 for results, 14 to fix weak chapters and rebook, 12 for the second result.
